World Trade Week

This event underscores the critical role of global commerce in driving economic growth, creating high-quality jobs, and fostering new business opportunities. It is a time to reflect on how international trade strengthens the state’s economy and how Tennessee businesses can further leverage trade to succeed on the global stage.

The International Trade Administration (ITA), in collaboration with the Tennessee District Export Council (TNDEC), plays a leading role in facilitating World Trade Week events across the state. These events include educational seminars, keynotes from industry experts, networking opportunities, and resources aimed at helping businesses understand and navigate the complexities of international markets.

Recognizing the increasing importance of trade, the celebration has evolved into a month-long observance, now officially known as World Trade Month in Tennessee. The expansion of the observance was catalyzed by the official proclamation from Governor Bill Lee, declaring May as World Trade Month, allowing for a broader platform to showcase Tennessee’s commitment to global trade.

During this month, the Tennessee District Export Council, alongside its key partners — including the U.S. Commercial Service, the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, the Tennessee Small Business Development Center’s International Trade Center, and the Nashville Chamber of Commerce — organize more than 20 events throughout the state.

These events attract hundreds of Tennessee business executives and trade professionals who gather to learn, collaborate, and build relationships that enhance Tennessee’s presence in the global marketplace. From educational forums to international business development workshops, the celebration helps local companies discover new export opportunities, learn about global trade policies, and access the resources they need to expand their businesses overseas.

World Trade Week in Tennessee highlights how international trade benefits businesses of all sizes — from small enterprises looking to reach international customers to large manufacturers expanding their global footprint. It emphasizes the interconnectedness of global economies and the shared growth that comes from engaging in international markets.

Whether you are a seasoned exporter or new to international trade, Tennessee’s World Trade Month is an invaluable opportunity to gain insights, share experiences, and foster connections that will help your business succeed on the world stage.
